Top 10 Tips for preparing yourself for your beautiful new baby!

.Physical and Emotional changes. Of course you will see the physical changes in your body as your baby grows, however there is also the morning sickness, weight gain and general ill feeling. These are nothing to worry about and all expected, make sure to be prepared and keep comfortable throughout. It is usually at the beginning of the pregnancy when these symptoms take effect but can continue throughout the pregnancy, as each pregnancy is different and individual.

.Although weight gain in expected in pregnancy you also need to make sure you are eating the right foods so that both you and your baby are getting all the right nutrients and vitamins to ensure a healthy pregnancy and labour. Research has shown that when mothers gain more than necessary when pregnant it can cause a difficult labour. So of course give in to some cravings but do not over indulge in junk food.

.Obviously you will probably of heard before, if you are a smoker stop smoking, don’t drink alcohol and do not over indulge in caffeine-based products. It has been medically proven that alcohol and tobacco can dramatically decrease the weight of your baby, lead to miscarriages, complications during labour and premature births. So obviously not something to be taken lightly!

.Make sure that you are prepared financially, babies are expensive, and with all the household essentials, you also need to take into consideration the fact that one parent is going to be on maternity or paternity leave thus also decreasing your household income. Obviously the essentials such as Nappies are an inevitable expense but with re-useable nappies you can save a lot of money in the long run, our new range are also made with bamboo cotton liners which are much kinders to babys bottom!. Do not over indulge in newborn wear as babies grow very fast you may not get chance to use them. Invest in piece which will last as your baby grows, such as a swaddling blanket which can then be used as a 'blankie' as your baby gets older.

.Plan for the birth: Whether or not it’s your first time to give birth, your doctor can help explain and suggest a birth and delivery plan for you and your partner. Aside from the medical aspect of the birth, you should also prepare a bag and the things you will need to take to the hospital when it is time. Make sure this is prepared for at least a week before your due date as to ensure you are not caught off guard at any point.

.Make sure you are aware of the alternative procedures if your labour does not go to plan. For example the procedure if you have to undergo for a C-section, the type of pain relief available to you etc as when in labour this is will be the last thing on your mind.

.Baby/Child proofing your home, if this is your first baby you are going to be very used to it just being you and your partner and the way of life you have already built for yourselves. Things, which you are very used to having around, could prove a hazard for a new baby and this is something you will have to spend much time doing and preparing. Similarly when creating a nursery for your baby makes sure any decorations and toys are not to be hazardous to the new baby.

.Something else that new parents do not usually think about until they are amidst and argument about the ‘naughty step’ is a parenting style. Do you and your partner agree on the same way of raising your child? If not do you need to build a parenting style together and agree on this before the birth?

.Be prepared for very little sleep and lots of multi-tasking! Having a new baby isn’t easy and we’re not going to pretend it is. BUT it is worth every second as we promise you will not love anything more than this tiny bundle of joy when you hold it for the first time.

.FINALLY make sure you enjoy every second of the pregnancy and birth, after all it is a precious gift, something you will treasure for the rest of your life, an exciting time in every women’s life.
